Whitewater Rafting on the Rio Cangrejal - 1/2 day
 
Whitewater RaftingEnjoy the exciting rapids and crystal clear waters of the Cangrejal river, which runs through the mountainous rainforest of the Pico Bonito National Park.Rafting in our Achilles inflatable rubber rafts provides 4 hours of thrilling adventure navigating through the CLASS III and IV rapids of the Cangrejal river. The trip includes instructions, training exercises on how to navigate the raft, tropical fruit picnic and transportation. You can also take a pleasant dive and swim in the inviting transparent waters of the Cangrejal river.

Sico River - Whitewater Rafting - 4, 6 or 8 days (Min 2, Max 10 persons)
Discover the lifestyle of farmers living in remote areas, two different ethnic cultures (Miskito and Garifuna), a great variety of colourful birds, crocodiles, river otters, and the beauty of three different forest ecosystems: pine, tropical hardwood and mangrove, all while navigating the exciting CLASS II and III rapids of the Sico River (Tinto, Grande or Negro River). This river forms part of the western boundary of the Rio Platano Biosphere Reserve, a WORLD HERITAGE SITE.
 
4 day trip - We will navigate down the river six hours a day and camp at a different place every night, until we reach Sico village where we will end our rafting journey and then ride in a dug-out motorboat, known as tuc-tuc, for four hours to Palacios, a Mestizo village.

6 day trip -
This rafting expedition in the Sico or Tinto River give us three and a half days of full excitement on Class II to III+ rapids. On our route to the river we will pass through extensive African oil palm and banana plantations and plenty of campesino farms. On the river we will navigate through cattle ranches, farmlands, pine forest and secondary forests. The mountain range of Sierra del Carbon and Sierra de Rio Tinto will delight us with its beautiful panoramic views of the pristine forests. We may find dugout canoes coming up or down through navigable sectors of the river or some gold miners searching for that precious metal on the river bed. At the end of the trip we will experience the culture of the Miskitos and Garifuna who live close to the ocean.

8 day trip - This expedition combines the excitement of the friendly rapids of Rio Sico or Tinto with the interaction with Miskito and Garifunas cultures, as well as the opportunity to visit a butterfly farm and experience the exuberant tropical lowland forest located around the Ibans Lagoon where colourful birds, howler monkeys and capuchin monkeys are our frequent companions.

Transportation in 4x4 vehicle from La Ceiba to Las Jicoteas (5 hrs.) and hike to the put in (1.5 hrs.). Preparation of rafts, beginning of the rafting trip and first camping set up (1 hr.). Transfer in 4x4 pick up truck from La Ceiba to the put in in Puente La Balsa (Rainy season) or Boca de Hule (Dry season) (4 or 6 hrs.). Preparation of equipment and rafting for about 2 hours in Class III rapids to find first camp by El Culuco. Camp on river sand bar. Same as for 6 days.

We continue rafting down the river and look for our second campsite location at a neat sandy platform (6 hrs.). This day we run the exiting Class III+ rapids of Los Fales. Rafting down the river in Class II rapids (6 hrs.). Camping near Río del Oro on river sand bar. Same as for 6 days.

We keep floating down the river up to the cowboy village of Sico (3 hrs.) and later continue our journey by motor boat to Palacios (4 hrs.). This night we experience Garifuna cultural dance. Rafting in Class II and III rapids passing El Guano, Corriente del Tigre and Piedra Parada to camp by Cayo de la Iguana. (6 hrs.) Camp on river sand bar. Same as for 6 days.

Fly from Palacios to La Ceiba at 12:00. Continue our rafting expedition passing Lavaderito, La Bacadilla, Quesera and the exciting Class III + rapids of Los Fales (6 hrs.). Camp on river sand bar. Same as for 6 days.

  Navigate the last sector on calm water until we arrive at Sico Village (3 hrs.). After eating a hot lunch in town we continue our journey down the river in a motorized dug out canoe called tuc tuc until we reach Palacios, a Mestizo village located in the Bacalar Lagoon by the Caribbean sea (4hrs.). Lodging in Hotel Río Tinto. Garifuna cultural dance at night. Following the same itinerary as SICO RAFT 6 we continue our journey on day 5 by motor boat to Raista (5 hrs.), a Miskito village where the butterfly farm is located near the Ibans Lagoon.

  After breakfast visit the relics where English pirates once roamed. Fly to La Ceiba at 12:00. End of our services. AM cross the Ibans Lagoon to Sahsabila (40 min.) to ride our dug out canoes that will take us to the trails of Tramp (1 hr.) to hike into the jungle carrying no equipment (4 hrs.)

    Tour to Paru River which snakes through the dense jungle (5 hrs.). We'll make short hikes to observe the wildlife. Trip to Plaplaya (1.5 hrs.) where we shall watch a colourful Garifuna dance show.

    After breakfast we leave for Palacios. (40 mins.) to take our plane back to La Ceiba at 12:00.
